I knew she was the one the moment I laid eyes on her.

She’s everything I’ve ever wanted, and I never dreamed of
finding her in my hometown. Savannah Owens seems lost and wants to find a place
where she feels as if she belongs. What she doesn’t realize is she’s already
found it. When I uncover a long buried secret, I know it’ll change everything
Savannah and I have. Secrets never stay hidden, and once the truth about
Savannah’s past is revealed, I’ll do whatever it takes to keep her and make her
mine forever.

All I’ve ever wanted was to find a place where I belong.

A place that I actually fit in and don’t feel like an
outsider. When I met Caden Harlow, I thought I found my home. He’s everything I
need to make my life seem almost perfect. No matter how much I try to stay
away, something always pulls me back to him. But the urge to get the answers
I’ve longed for, outweighs my feelings for him. I have to find the truth, if
only to put an end to my insecurity of never being wanted and truly loved.

*** This can be read as a standalone. ***

Book #1: Carter
The Harlow Brothers Series (Standalone)

She was the one for me.

The one that I knew would be mine forever until I made the biggest mistake. I pushed her away and I’ve regretted that decision ever since. I’ve tried to move on, tried to put the memory of her behind me, but she’s always consuming my thoughts. Now, she’s back in our hometown, trying to rebuild a new life. I know she’s keeping secrets. She tries to hide them from me, and I will do whatever it takes to prove that I’m the one she needs. Because Shelby Ross is the other part of me that I can’t live without and I refuse to let her go again.

He broke my heart.

I never thought I would be able to pick of the pieces he left behind. When he let me go, I ran away from it all, thinking it was the easiest thing to do. But, running has a price and I’ve paid it in full for years. Now, I’m back where it all began, back to putting my life together and starting over. It should’ve been easy, but Carter Harlow is reawakening long buried emotions that I thought were gone. He wants to make me his again. I can’t let that happen. He ruined me, broke me, and I’m afraid I’ll never survive it a second time around.

Brie Paisley is a
small town gal from Mississippi. She always wanted to write at a young age and
was always filling journals with her thoughts and short stories. Brie started
with the idea of Worshipped a year ago and with the encouragement of her husband
and sister in law, she was able to write her first book. When she is not
writing, you can find her reading a good book, painting, scrapbooking, or
watching a good movie with her husband and her boxer.

My Review:

It’s rare to find two people so much alike that get along so well. I’m a stickler for accents. So the first time Caden spoke, I knew I would love it. I know I can’t actually hear him, but I can imagine. Caden is sweet, strong, loving, almost perfect and he would do anything to win the woman of his dreams. Savannah is broken, strong willed, and confused. She tries hard to resist the pull between them. You should definitely read this book. It’s full of shock and awe. You will fall in love with the Harlowe brothers and will definitely want more.

Say You’ll Stay – Book Review

Say You'll Stay (Return to Me Book 1) by [Michaels, Corinne] Say You’ll Stay (Return to Me Book 1) by  Corinne Michaels

From New York Times Bestseller, Corinne Michaels, comes a new second chance standalone romance.

One word.

It was all he had to do. Instead, he got on that bus and took my heart with him.

That was seventeen years ago.

I moved on. Marriage. Kids. White picket fence. Everything I ever wanted, but my husband betrayed me and I was left once again.

Alone, penniless, and with two boys, I had no choice but to return to Tennessee. He wasn’t supposed to be there. I should’ve been safe. However, fate has a way of stepping in.

This time around, the tables are turned. It’s my decision. Second chances do exist, but I don’t know if we can repair what’s already been broken . . .

My Review:

I want to start by saying, Wow! A word I don’t use lightly.  I thoroughly enjoyed every aspect of this book.  How often do you get a second chance at love?

A word of caution…I listened to this book on audible.  I would advise to anyone listening, to not listen to the beginning while driving.  It is a very emotional beginning.  I loved Zach and Presley’s story.  I cried, I laughed, and I got angry.  I even dreamed a little.  This book caused so many different emotions.  It’s believable and I felt like a fly on the wall.  I didn’t agree with the way Presley handled a certain situation, but that’s life.  I loved Zach’s accent.  Who doesn’t like a good ranch man?  If you don’t mind a good cry in the midst of all the laughter, you will not be disappointed.

Evie and Smith’s story is entertaining, especially the way it all began. This is a good best friends to lovers story. Their back and forth relationship will make you laugh. It’s an enjoyable read.

Leah resides on the coast of Massachusetts. She’s been an avid reader since fourth grade when she fell in love with the “Dear America” books and Harry Potter. When she’s not writing, she’s likely reading. Though she doesn’t much believe in fantasy, she does make an exception for all things Disney. Leah received a degree in psychology this past May, and she has absolutely no idea what she wants to do with it. She enjoys wine, Italian food, candles, coffee, and being outside.

She hates cold weather, long pants, staying in one place for too long, and going to bed (though she does love sleeping.) Leah has always had a passion for writing, but it wasn’t until the Winter of 2015 that she finally got an idea in her head for her first novel, Clemency, which she wrote the following Summer. She is currently working on her second novel.

My Review:

Very good debut novel. Gaia & Quillen’s relationship is…complicated. Their pasts are troubling. Their connection was not instant, but was one that grew from a friendship. Their story and the background behind it, is real and draws you in little by little. The author did a great job relaying this story. It touched on several different issues that people can relate to, and the eye opening ending was one that even I didn’t foresee coming. You should definitely give it a try.

Sin and Cider

the lust from my mind, I decide to turn my focus to the inside of the barn now
that I’ve finished the thankless task of clearing out weeds. I had pulled out
some of the rubbish inside already but still have a lot of work to do. I pull
one of the doors to the side, the gentle creaking sound washing over me in a
wave of nostalgia. I make my way inside and step over dried leaves and debris,
each step kicking up a layer of dust. I look ahead and broken slats of wood are
on the ground; those must be part of the original roof that was destroyed. I
survey the space and take in the old tanks where we used to make cider and the
empty jugs, some whole and some broken, lining the walls on shelves covered in
cobwebs. When I was a kid this barn was spotless and welcoming, the perfect
place to make cider and welcome visitors. Now it looks like an old photograph
and not the treasured memory it really is. I take a deep breath and the smells
of dust and mold fill my nose instead of crisp apples and warm spices. It’s in
this moment I make a promise to myself: I’m going to restore this barn to its
former glory.
pick my way across the worn and dirty hardwood and undo the latch on one of the
windows. As soon as it swings open the sweet smell of flowers permeates the air
and rays of sunshine filter in, the shafts of light instantly brightening up
the room. I open the window on the other side and feel excited about the task
at hand. This barn is a dirty penny and just needs to shine again.

My Review:

Who knew Cider could be sooo good?

MacIntosh returning home for the summer from the big city turns out to be more complicated than she thought it would be.  When Lawson figured out that MacIntosh was his mystery woman, what he did next was so unexpected.

I have read ‘best friends little sister stories’ before, but this…this was different.  It’s a refreshing new spin on the whole idea.  MacIntosh and Lawson are both very strong characters.  Neither one of them backs down from the other.  Their attraction to one another bleeds through the pages; but even with the attraction, they are both blind to what is happening between them.

I have never been in a situation like this, but I feel like I can relate to their story; like I was there with them, watching all of this play out.  This is one of those novels where I wish I could tell everyone the story, but I can’t.  It was that good.

K. Reese, you nailed it.

A Perfect Plan – Book Review

A Perfect Plan (Wiltshire Chronicles Book 1) by [Drake, Alyssa]

A Perfect Plan (Wiltshire Chronicles Book 1) by Alyssa Drake

Samantha Hastings lived a quiet, peaceful life on her family’s country estate. With no man to order her around and no stifling society rules to follow, she considered herself blessed. However, when her brother’s ship sinks during a short trip to France, Samantha receives a request from her sister-in-law to return to town and manage the late Earl’s finances. Suddenly thrust into society, Samantha faces an unfamiliar world and a pair of very familiar green eyes.

Lord Benjamin Westwood never intended on following through with his rash promise to his best friend. Now, with Edward’s death, Benjamin becomes the unwilling guardian to Edward’s bratty little sister, who has grown up considerably since the last time they met. His intention to marry her off to the first available suitor is thwarted when he finds himself falling for Samantha’s unique demeanor. He lights upon the perfect plan; a marriage of convenience, giving him the opportunity to romance Samantha without distraction.

However, when they discover Edward’s disappearance was due to foul play, Benjamin’s perfect plan begins to quickly unravel. Now, Samantha is in more danger than either of them realized and Benjamin is running out of time.

My Review:

Great read.  Samantha is a woman who wasn’t raised in the society which she is suddenly thrown into. Benjamin feels an immediate attraction to Samantha, even before he realized who she is.

First let me start by saying that I didn’t think I would enjoy this book as much as I did. I’ve watched tons of period movies, and I love them. I have never read the books though. The author did a great job creating scenes that were mentally visible and believable. This is a romance novel, as well as a mystery. With each new scene, I fell deeper into each character; and by the end, I wanted to know more. I can’t wait to read the next book. The suspense…

Alyssa Drake About the author:

Award winning author Alyssa Drake has been creating stories since she could read, preferring to construct her own bedtime tales instead of reading the titles in her bookshelves. Enraptured with all types of writing, Alyssa has tried her hand at short stories, collaborations and poetry. However, her first love has always been books. She thoroughly enjoys strong heroines and often laughs aloud when visualizing conversations between her characters.

Alyssa graduated from the University of the Pacific, with a B.S. in business and a concentration in French literature. Currently she resides in Northern California with her blended family, where she works full-time at a chocolate factory.

She believes everyone is motivated by love of someone or something. One of her favorite diversions is fabricating stories about strangers surrounding her on public transportation. Alyssa can often be found madly scribbling notes on a train or daydreaming out the window as the scenery whips past.

An Imperfect Engagement, Alyssa’ sophomore novel, is the follow-up to her debut novel, A Perfect Plan (which won Obsessed by Book’s 2016 Indie Award for Best Historical Read). Both novels are historical romantic suspense (love & murder in 1850’s England).

My Light – Book Review

My Light (No More Secrets Book 1) by [Bishop, Ani]

My Light (No More Secrets Book 1) by Ani Bishop

My Review:

This is the first book in the No More Secrets Series. The authors writing was great. The story line was easy to follow and believable. It was a great short read. The characters were developed. If you enjoy a quick read second chance romance, you’ll like this book. Great start to the series.

Fractured – Book Review

Fractured (Vampire Awakenings, Book 6) by [Davies, Brenda K.]

Fractured (Vampire Awakenings, Book 6) by Brenda K. Davies

In this gripping Vampire Awakenings Series novella, David finally meets his match.

Freed from the chains and the vampires that once held her, Mia struggles every day to come to terms with her captivity and the aftermath of what she endured.

Knowing that she can’t stand the touch of another, David will do whatever he can to help Mia while she tries to figure out who she is now, and how to handle the deepening bond between them.

However, just when Mia starts to think that she may be able to find happiness again with David, a danger she never knew existed rises up and threatens to take it all away from her once more.

Due to language, violence, and sexual content this book is recommended for readers 18+

My Review:

Loved it! I’m glad that one of the stooges finally met his mate. I don’t know that I’ve ever read a vampire book where the vampire had a phobia, but this was a great story line. David is strong willed, very understanding and has tons of patience. Mia has been scorned and tormented repeatedly. Their story is touching, no pun intended.

Remnants – Book Review

Remnants: A dark urban fantasy (Shifter Chronicles Book 2) by [Amade, Melle]Melle Amade

Shae’s body is betraying her and she’s terrified. Though she’s joined the ranks of her shifter friends, she knows inside she’s not like them. Her unstable cells won’t let her control the shift.

As Topanga grows crowded with suspicious shifters, aligned with the fascist Order, it becomes clear they have been living in a tiny haven on the edge of an intolerant, militant shifter society. Even worse, Shae’s formal presentation to El Oso, the Order’s Berserker Supreme Leader, is only days away. Without full control of her powers or her body, she’s not sure she’ll survive the inspection.

As Shae discovers the dreadful truth about her family heritage, she’s faced with a severe choice: break with the Order and lose her friends or submit to a life of subjugation and lies.

No matter what she chooses, she’ll be left with only Remnants of the life she had.

My Review:

This book picked up right where the last one left off.  Shae and the crew are back.  Shae is having trouble when she shifts and her friends are trying hard to find a solution to her problem.  As her connection to Aiden fizzles, her attraction to Callum only grows.  The order will arrive, friendships will be tested and Shae will have to make the hardest decision of her life.  In the midst of all this, she finds out something about her family that changes everything she’s ever known.

I can’t really say too much without giving the story away, but I enjoyed delving deeper into Shae’s world.
