*Sheets and Secrets is a STANDALONE novella with some violence, suspense, sexual conduct, and language. As always, a HEA. Ages 18+ only.

My Review: 4 Stars

Good debut novel by a new to me author. I think it’s best described as a romantic thriller.  I really liked the writing style. The characters were engaging and held my attention. The story line is easy to follow. Good quick read with HEA. I would recommend.

He came into my life expectedly.
Falling in love with him was not part of my plan.
But I did, deeply and irrevocably.
It was both the worst and best decision of my life.
But he gave me no choice but to walk away.
I spent my life since justifying it with being young and immature. But I knew it wasn’t true.
When he reentered my life by chance at a time when nothing made sense, I thought fate was playing a cruel joke.
He saved me.
He destroyed me.
But unknowingly, he revived me.

Falling in love with her was never in my plans.
I had plans, big ones, but she became everything.
I lost her, and along with her, my willingness to love and be loved.
I swore I’d never again give my heart to anyone.
When we’re thrown together once more, I know fate is messing with me.
But when I laid my eyes on her again, all I wanted to do was give.
I wanted to give so much more than I had to offer.

My Review: 5 Stars

Very Emotional story.  Leah & Leo are not your normal best friend’s little sister union.  This is a story of how a first love can stand the tests of time, even through distance and space.  There is so much I wish I could say, but it’ll give the story away.

So I’ll just say this…I sat for four and a half hours nonstop reading this heart wrenching story.  As sleepy as I was, I could not stop reading.  There are some books where you can stop and come back to later and this, for me, is not one of them.  The characters are easy to relate to.  The story line flows well, is believable and will have you rooting for the main characters throughout.  I cried myself awake, yes awake.  Definite must read by a new to me Author.  Great Debut!

But Evan’s feelings for Hannah are stronger than he believed. And when he realizes Hannah’s life is in danger, he must decide between his passion and his heart.

**An Amorous Dance, and all stories in The Rabourn Theater Series, are stand-alone titles**

My Review:

First, let me begin by saying, I’ve never read theatrical suspense. I’m skeptical about whether or not It’ll hold my attention.

Hannah & Evan share a love that neither one of them are willing to admit to. They’re both equally passionate about the theater which, both draws suspicion and keeps that spark alive between them. I loved the way they didn’t want to love and the way they hated. The tension between them is palpable. I felt like I was in every scene.

In the beginning, there are many characters introduced; but as the story goes on I began to understand why. Pay close attention, because each character has a purpose. The author did a great job making each character seem as if they were in some way involved in Hannah’s father’s death. It’s very well written. It definitely kept me intrigued until the end.

For those looking for a good suspense novel to keep you guessing, with intense romance; I definitely recommend. Are you a fan of the theater? Yes? Then, you must read this book!

The Corner Office – Review

The Corner Office by Katerina Baker

Tara Johnson’s sacrifices are about to pay off: a senior executive at thirty-five at a Fortune 500 company, she’s one of the two finalists in line for a Managing Director position. Unfortunately, her rival of fifteen years, the charming, infuriating Richard Boyd, is just as qualified, and unlike her, he’s willing to cross pretty much every line to get what he wants.

Of all the things Tara stored in the attic to make it to the top, it’s her personal life she misses the most. That is, until she starts a steamy affair with sex god Aidan, her direct report. Interoffice relationships with a subordinate can mean the end of a career, and when Richard finds out, it’s the perfect opportunity to take his high-heeled nemesis out, especially since he’s still nursing a grudge against Tara for rejecting him years ago.

But Tara’s increasingly domineering lover has his own dark secrets, endangering more than just her career. As her liaison spirals out of control, salvation will come from the man she always thought she hated, and perhaps the only one to truly understand her.

My Review:

This is your average office romance with a twist I did not expect.  It’s one of those stories where you think one thing is going to happen and then it doesn’t.  Tara & Richard are both very strong willed characters who are up for the same position.  Their relationship, I wouldn’t call it hate, but definitely not love.  Tara’s budding relationship with Aidan is the opposite.  Their relationship proves that while office romances can be fun and exciting, they can cause more problems than not.  Tara, as strong as she is, is not perfect.  She makes mistakes, just like the rest.  I like that the author focused on women’s rights in the workplace.  I loved the meetings and encouragement.  If you’re looking for an easy read that focuses on women in the workplace, this is the one.  I enjoyed reading it  It’s definitely not what I expected.

Back On Track Series – Book Review

Perfect Timing: Back on Track Book One by [Layne, JC]

Perfect Timing (Back on Track) B1

Jes Harper loves her life. Being the production assistant for one of the most sought after producers in the music industry, Brett Winters, she gets to spend her time doing what she loves – listening to music. Working with the musicians is fun, too, but after being burned by them twice before in love, she’s sworn them off for anything more than friends. But, Brett’s best friend is back in town and perfect in every way, and he could change her mind…if she’d just let him.

Mitch Lansing has lived the musician life – the drugs, the women, the partying – but he’s over that now. At 40, you tend to want to settle down, even if you’re a musician. He’s happy to be back home with his best friend, Brett, and recording his own music. One look at Brett’s assistant and he knows he’s found the perfect woman for him…if he can just convince her of that.

When coming on strong doesn’t work, Mitch decides to take it slow and vows to not give up. Day by day, piece by piece, he chips away at the wall around Jes’s heart. Can he prove to her that not all musicians are the same? Or will a ghost from his past ruin everything for them both? The other musicians from her past broke her heart…Mitch could shatter it completely.

My Review:

Jes & Mitch are both strong willed characters.  Neither one of them is willing to give in to the other at first.  I could relate to Jess’ character, having been hurt before.  Mitch is fun and flirty and crazed.  He’s a musician.  Fanning myself.  I had no problems following the story line.  Overall this was a good start to the series.

As they wait for news of Jes’s fate, Mitch, Brett and Becca will stop at nothing to make sure that whoever is responsible for her attack is caught. But this ghost has more sinister plans; plans that can change their lives forever. Can they stop her before she finishes the job?

My Review:

This is an interesting followup to the first book in the series. It took an unexpected turn.  Unlike the first book, this one is more intense. The characters are a little more developed. It’s a love story with a little bit of thrill. It’s an enjoyable read.

Book #1: Carter
The Harlow Brothers Series (Standalone)

She was the one for me.

The one that I knew would be mine forever until I made the biggest mistake. I pushed her away and I’ve regretted that decision ever since. I’ve tried to move on, tried to put the memory of her behind me, but she’s always consuming my thoughts. Now, she’s back in our hometown, trying to rebuild a new life. I know she’s keeping secrets. She tries to hide them from me, and I will do whatever it takes to prove that I’m the one she needs. Because Shelby Ross is the other part of me that I can’t live without and I refuse to let her go again.

He broke my heart.

I never thought I would be able to pick of the pieces he left behind. When he let me go, I ran away from it all, thinking it was the easiest thing to do. But, running has a price and I’ve paid it in full for years. Now, I’m back where it all began, back to putting my life together and starting over. It should’ve been easy, but Carter Harlow is reawakening long buried emotions that I thought were gone. He wants to make me his again. I can’t let that happen. He ruined me, broke me, and I’m afraid I’ll never survive it a second time around.

Brie Paisley is a
small town gal from Mississippi. She always wanted to write at a young age and
was always filling journals with her thoughts and short stories. Brie started
with the idea of Worshipped a year ago and with the encouragement of her husband
and sister in law, she was able to write her first book. When she is not
writing, you can find her reading a good book, painting, scrapbooking, or
watching a good movie with her husband and her boxer.

My Review:

It’s rare to find two people so much alike that get along so well. I’m a stickler for accents. So the first time Caden spoke, I knew I would love it. I know I can’t actually hear him, but I can imagine. Caden is sweet, strong, loving, almost perfect and he would do anything to win the woman of his dreams. Savannah is broken, strong willed, and confused. She tries hard to resist the pull between them. You should definitely read this book. It’s full of shock and awe. You will fall in love with the Harlowe brothers and will definitely want more.

Say You’ll Stay – Book Review

Say You'll Stay (Return to Me Book 1) by [Michaels, Corinne] Say You’ll Stay (Return to Me Book 1) by  Corinne Michaels

From New York Times Bestseller, Corinne Michaels, comes a new second chance standalone romance.

One word.

It was all he had to do. Instead, he got on that bus and took my heart with him.

That was seventeen years ago.

I moved on. Marriage. Kids. White picket fence. Everything I ever wanted, but my husband betrayed me and I was left once again.

Alone, penniless, and with two boys, I had no choice but to return to Tennessee. He wasn’t supposed to be there. I should’ve been safe. However, fate has a way of stepping in.

This time around, the tables are turned. It’s my decision. Second chances do exist, but I don’t know if we can repair what’s already been broken . . .

My Review:

I want to start by saying, Wow! A word I don’t use lightly.  I thoroughly enjoyed every aspect of this book.  How often do you get a second chance at love?

A word of caution…I listened to this book on audible.  I would advise to anyone listening, to not listen to the beginning while driving.  It is a very emotional beginning.  I loved Zach and Presley’s story.  I cried, I laughed, and I got angry.  I even dreamed a little.  This book caused so many different emotions.  It’s believable and I felt like a fly on the wall.  I didn’t agree with the way Presley handled a certain situation, but that’s life.  I loved Zach’s accent.  Who doesn’t like a good ranch man?  If you don’t mind a good cry in the midst of all the laughter, you will not be disappointed.

Clemency - about the author - black_blue

Leah resides on the coast of Massachusetts. She’s been an avid reader since fourth grade when she fell in love with the “Dear America” books and Harry Potter. When she’s not writing, she’s likely reading. Though she doesn’t much believe in fantasy, she does make an exception for all things Disney. Leah received a degree in psychology this past May, and she has absolutely no idea what she wants to do with it. She enjoys wine, Italian food, candles, coffee, and being outside.

She hates cold weather, long pants, staying in one place for too long, and going to bed (though she does love sleeping.) Leah has always had a passion for writing, but it wasn’t until the Winter of 2015 that she finally got an idea in her head for her first novel, Clemency, which she wrote the following Summer. She is currently working on her second novel.

My Review:

Very good debut novel. Gaia & Quillen’s relationship is…complicated. Their pasts are troubling. Their connection was not instant, but was one that grew from a friendship. Their story and the background behind it, is real and draws you in little by little. The author did a great job relaying this story. It touched on several different issues that people can relate to, and the eye opening ending was one that even I didn’t foresee coming. You should definitely give it a try.
