Author Interview Questions

1. What is your Author pen name?

–J.S. Frankel

2. What genre(s) do you write & why?

–I write YA Fantasy for the most part, as it offers me the opportunity to explore the possibilities of the universe around us. Why limit oneself to Earth? Nothing wrong with that, of course, but I like to go beyond preset boundaries.

3. What inspired you to become an author?

–Something inside me said that I had a story to tell and I got to it. Over the years I’ve refined my technique and will continue to do so. I can’t think of anything more gratifying than turning out a well-written story.

4. What advice would you give to aspiring authors?

–I know this will sound like a cliché, but don’t give up! I was rejected at least a hundred times if not more before someone took a chance on me. Other more famous writers have had the same experience. So you should never give up hope. At the same time, you should continue to read other writers to pick up tips on how they structure their narrative, keep their pace, define their characters, and so on. It’s a lifelong endeavor.

5. What do you like the most and least about being an author?

–What I like most is creating my own world, my vision of reality. What I dislike is the editing process. It’s a necessary evil. I also dislike going through periods of low to no sales…I’m not the first to say that, but I might as well be honest.

6. Have you ever had writer’s block? If so, what did you do to get past it?

–I’ve never had writer’s block, believe it or not. I’ve always known what to do. However, I have had doubts as to whether I was writing the best prose I could write, so if I did, I went back and rewrote it, but I’ve never been stumped for an idea.

7. Who are your favorite authors?

–In no particular order, N.K. Jemisin, Neil Gaiman, Robert McCammon, Ray Bradbury, and Larry Niven and Jerry Pournelle.

8. What’s next for you; any upcoming events, new releases and etc.?

–Actually, I have lots of upcoming novels! The final novel in the Just Another Quiet Place trilogy is due out in October. It’s entitled Just Another Quiet Little State, and it completes the trilogy. As well, the final novel in the Titans trilogy, The Titans of Ardana 3: Interstellar, should be out by year’s end, as well as Master Fantastic. I have a few more novels due out next year as well, so I’ll be busy writing and editing for a long time to come. J
